Ta'amireh Bedouin

Headline finds

~33 fragmentary manuscripts including Jubilees and Ben Sira

How it was discovered

After the value of Cave 1 became clear, Bedouin searchers combed the marl terraces and limestone cliffs faster than the official teams. Cave 2 was located by Ta'amireh tribesmen in February 1952 and later surveyed by the joint École Biblique / Jordanian Department of Antiquities expedition.

Why it matters

Confirmed that the Qumran library extended beyond one cave and included apocryphal and wisdom literature alongside scripture.
